Glory and Tar

So I didn't bring the kids to church Sunday b/c we had 4 more inches of snow and it was like 8 degrees out and I woke up 20 minutes before mass started. (Charlie had left Saturday and no one slept well.)

I was trying to be the good Catholic mom and tell them about the Gospel since it was about the 3 Kings. I know what you're thinking and Yes, I would only breach the subject if I was absolutely sure I could field a few elementary school questions.

So I start telling them and "the song" comes up somehow. So Tali (11) says, "Well, I always wondered about that song" and she starts to sing. I'm about to ask her to sing again b/c I didn't quite catch it the first time and she goes. "what does that mean anyway...glory & tar?" Why are they kings of "Glory & Tar?"

"You mean ORIENT ARE?"

"An ornament?"

"No, Orient!, like the far East" (I'll spare you the discussion of what I meant by East, not to mention the Orient)

"Ohhhhh, I thought it was Glory and Tar b/c they brought him gold and that's cool; like glory and then that other stuff which I don't know what it is, but maybe it was gross like tar."

Sooooo, I'm wondering, when does being blonde begin to effect your intelligence?

Too make Tali feel better I told her that my Dad, "Bob-Bob used to think they were saying "Sleep in heavenly peas" Like there was this great big bowl of "heavenly" peas and maybe it was warm and that's why it would be good to sleep in...(he was blond as a child as well)

Lyra (7) pipes in and said "Did father tell the Behama story again?" So after several minutes of trying to track down what she was talking about...Josie interjects with "the BABUSHKA?"

"No, the Behama."

Ten minutes, several glares and a few tears later, I explain that maybe, when Lyra's teacher told it the "Babuska" had a name which happened to be "Behama" and isn't it funny how alike the two words sound.

I can Mommy Tap Dance with the best of them!!!

This story actually gives me an insight as to why I can't get anything done. Every conversation is a humongous knot hidden under the top layer of hair and the lengths I must go to to get to the heart of the issue...takes up all my laundry time!
